We had a lesson on covenants with Mei (teenage investigat0r). Then she came to church on Sunday. One of the members took her. Her ride came an hour before church started so she came to seminary because that's when seminary started. Then she stayed for church. After church there was a baptism of a boy in the ward and she came to that. There were lots of little kids and it was quite rowdy, but I think she had a good time.
We haven't met with Chiaki. We left a note and a box of American candy in her box with a note saying that we wanted to come by today and share a brief message. We didn't hear back from her and had a dinner invitation from a ward member, so we are going to the dinner.
I did my first exchange! I went to Yokohama, my bean( beginning) area, with Sister Shaha (Emily's companion in the MTC). Shaha Shimai's companion, Sister Shimomiya, came to Kofu with Sister Perkins. Originally it was me and Sis Shimomiya in Yokohama and Sis Perkins and Sister Shaha in Kofu but we had a bad feeling about it so we changed the day of. I had a good time on the switch. It was the night of Eikaiwa, but no SAs (single adults) were there because there was a huge SA Conference that people in many stakes were going to. It was fun to be in my bean area!
We worked together there one day and had 3 lessons. Two with investigators and one with a less active member. We went out to Chinese food with one of them after we invited her to do so during the lesson. I was so amazed we had 3 lessons in one day! The next day we switched back. We didn't have time for the regular 3 hour train ride back so we took the special rapid. It cost 900 extra yen. We won't get reimbursed for that but we will get reimbursed for the cost the 3 hour train ride would have taken. It took only 1 hour and 15 minutes to get back on the fast train. So amazing!
We had two mogi lessons scheduled here in Kofu when we got back from the exchange but they both canceled.
Sunday, like I said, was the baptism. Then we were going to go to this one less-active's orchestra dinner party. She owns a restaurant and salon out of her house. Anywho. We did some housing in a certain area beforehand and then intended to follow the huge overpass road to her house because it was shorter than doing a "right angle" path to get there. Well, turns out there are TWO overpass roads and one is not written on the map! So I thought I was following the written one but we were following the unwritten one. We went WAY fast for 10 or 15 minutes to go back towards the right direction after we had been following this mystery road. We looked at the map once and an old guy was watching us from his balcony. He got a shirt on and then came down and asked if we needed help. Then we went further and looked at the map again and a family pulled over in their car and asked if they could help. SO nice! In the end we decided not to go to the lady's orchestra social thing but went home because we had been biking at full speed for so long and we made it home in good time.
Yesterday we had a dinner apt with a member family. They got baptized earlier this year. The mom is Japanese but she lived in Brazil. The dad is Japanese. He is older than here and it is her 2nd marriage. She has a 14 year old son from her previous marriage. The cool thing is the house. We rode our bikes 50 minutes to get there. The house is like 80 or 90 years old we think but the family of the dad has been living there for about 500 years! Their house on the inside has some old stuff that is original but the outsides have been plastered or whatever so it doesn't look old. The son wasn't there for the dinner, just the parents. They live up in the mountains. Before I got here the missionaries went over and cut down bamboo he had growing in the backyard.
Tonight we have another dinner appointment. We will leave for it at 6 cause that is when P-day ends. Sis. Perkins said we will have to go full speed on our bikes for about an hour to get to our 7 o'clock appointment. Whoa.
I love you!
Sister McMahan
